Unhappy Oil light flashing 3 beeps

    Hi all

I'm new on here so please be gentle

    I've got a W reg Polo 1.4S 16V

During long journeys the car will lose power and gain it again almost instantly.
After this happens, the Rev counter dies and the oil warning light flashes and i get 3 beeps.
Also occasionally the car will stall whilst travelling.

I've google the symptoms and mostly found that its the oil pressure sensor/gauge.
Is this correct, what part will i need replacing and can i do it myself?

    Any help would be great

    Many thanks

Sounds more like a faulty distributor to me.

Re: Oil light flashing 3 beeps

Would that account for the rev counter to die and the oil warning light with 3 beeps.

As i say i've looked on other places on the net and they have said oil pressure switch/sensor.
I just want to be ultra sure before i start putting it in to a garage or buying parts.

Obviously i'd rather it was the switch/sensor as its cheaper than a distrubutor, but as i say i just making sure.

    Thanks for you help btw

It would account for the rev counter dropping down, I am not sure about the oil beeper warning. The oil pressure sensor will not cause the rev counter to drop and the engine to cut out randomly.

Re: Oil light flashing 3 beeps

    Hi there,

I have the same car, same year and exactly the same problem! Not sure what to do about it but its most annoying. I dont think its an actual engine fault, so will start by changing the oil pressure switch and if that fails then will replace the distributor although this is costly.

Re: Oil light flashing 3 beeps

I've recently noticed it only cuts out after long journeys when i slow down significantly, ie. at roundabouts.....
    If that's any use?

Nicksmut, let me know how you get on.

Can you describe the problem again. The engine is not a 6N2, the car is a 6N1 though.

When driving (usually motorway speeds) the car will lurch, as if losing power for a breif moment, and then the rev counter will die, the oil warning light will flash and the buzzer will sound three times.

I've recently had it serviced by VW (i heard that this might help, as they clean the throttle body) and this has not cleared up the issue.
