Hi Guys

Bought Mk 5 (2004) VW Golf SDI 2.0

had a couple of problems, two ive fixed (brake pad warning located to a front damaged loom) and a glow plug error

Anyway: Both of these are fixed and ok - the error i still now have is below

0290 G46 008 Rear Left ABS Sensor Implausible Signal Intermittent

what ive done so far is

1) Fitted a new ABS sensor (ÂŁ25 quid pattern part off EBAY) ...... No fix
2) Fitted a new wheel bearing with ABS ring (35 quid off EBAY) ....... No fix
3) Bought (VCDS?) with a cable and reset the ABS code succesfully
4) Drive a hundred yards and ABS and the traction (car skidding symbol) both come back up

ive read something on a forum which talks about having to reprograme the ABS sensors?

Looking for some help guys !!!! .... i have the VCDS software and cable to reset / edit codes etc

cheers

Hi Keith

cheers - siggy updated will try and get the engine code etc from the info you provided.

The error code is pretty much what i said previous auto scan - i can get the exact full message and see if i can cut n paste it onto here

do you think you will see something in the data that will help ? does it need calibrating like ive read or is that forum bull ?

the wheel bearing only appeared to go on one way ........ but your going to tell me something that ive completely over looked like they are handed or something daft like that arent you !!!!

Ive already sheared my 18mm spline trying to torque the damn thing up so it isnt coming off and on again in a hurry !!!!

i did see someone on a forum saying something about these cheap EBAY sensors and they are crap etc ...... i dont know if they are a contrabuting factor

the car was saying another message previously ......... i then changed the sensor and it changed the message to the one i have now ...... the rubber ABS ring on the old bearing looked shot compared to the new one

ideally i could do with a wiring diagram so i can remove the plug from the ABS unit and do a continuity and insualtion resistance of the wiring ok check it is ok ...... does anyone have these ????

cheers

You can copy and paste the 1 Fault Found: section or you can add the txt file as an attachment.

Wheel bearings that have the inbuilt ABS sensor ring generally have instructions which way around that go. The ABS ring is magnetic so if you hold a small screwdriver on either edge you will will see which side it attracts too.

I'm not aware that you have to calibrate new sensors. You can drive the car with VCDS connected and plot the graphs from each ABS sensor to see the wave forms are all the same. VCDS recommend you have someone else in the car to operate the laptop its a safety thing.

Haynes don't do a workshop manual for the mk6 so I bought W Golf & Jetta Petrol & Diesel (04 - 07) 53 to 07 just to start of with.
