No Air coming out of any vent after 15 mins of driving

    Hi Folks,

Golf MkV 1.6 TSI with Climatic controls

After approx 15 minutes of driving air stops coming out of all vents. The process is gradual but starts around 10 - 15 mins of driving with the flow getting less and less until it stops.

This happens in both fresh air, recirculation modes, all temperature levels and affects all flow directions (foot, vents, windscreen). Changing modes/temperature when this happens does not fix the problem. When you stop the car the problem goes away.

The Fan is working and it does not slow down when this happens, I have taken the glove compartment off to verify this.

This is extremely annoying, in summer no cold air comes out and in winter no warm and of course the screen mists up.

I have taken it to 2 garages including a VW dealership and there are no error codes and as the problem goes away when you turn the car off it is very difficult to trace.

To my uneducated mind it seems that the air is getting blocked between the fan and the next stage whatever that may be (direction, heating control). I also feel that this blocking is controlled by the system as the process is gradual. Perhaps a sensor is not working as it should be and is triggering the process when it should not be.

Has anyone heard of such a thing before.

Is there a flap of some kind just after the fan that will block the flow of air. If so how do I get to this little sucker, I would like to disconnect it.

    Any ideas are really appreciated

    Regards

    Tony

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

    Hi Crasher,

It hasn't been changed but it has been checked and is clean as a whistle.

If it was clogged up then I presume that would cause the air flow to be reduced all the time, not flow fully for 15 minutes and then gradually reduce to zero flow. But I checked it anyway

    Welcome to the forum Tony.

Can I suggest that you add your car spec to your signature as it will save users asking everytime, if you know the engine code that will also be great? Adding your car spec.
