My 1.4TSI (125 PS) DSG Golf SV is now approaching 2 1/2 years old now, and overall has given me 42.8 mpg. (That's according to the fuel added and miles recorded over its life.) I'm tending to use the Economy mode now but haven't noticed much difference in the fuel consumption. I also use the air con throughout the year as it reduces condensation in winter.

This is rather better than I'd feared I'd get when I switched from my previous Golf Plus 1.6TDI DSG!

Interestingly it is much better on long journeys - even at high speeds... I've just returned from a driving trip to Austria - 2,500 miles in 2 1/2 weeks - with an overall fuel consumption of 47.5 mpg. The trip out gave me 49.3 mpg and 48.2 mpg, and the return gave me 49.3 mpg and 47.8 mpg. And that's cruising along Germany's unrestricted autobahns at 80 to 100 mph! The middle refuel was only 43.3 mpg which reflected shorter trips as well as climbing the Grossglockner Alpine pass from 900 metres to some 2500 metres in altitude!

A previous trip up it in my 2.0 TDI (140 PS) Skoda Octavia gave me some overheating problems but the Golf behaved perfectly throughout our trip
