Yes, you need to get a code read done to see what is stored before assuming the problem is to do with the recall. On your car failure of the EGR valve was rife well before the stupidity of the NOX fuss so get a code read done first and most the results.

I had my Software fix done on a Passat CC 2009 (197,000 miles) before the fix my fuel consumption was 600 miles to a full tank. (about 48mpg) its now doing under 40mpg.

I'm soo angry with myself for not checking these threads. VW have point blank refused to even check.

    Golf cutting out

Would a remapping by an independent be worth doing ?

Certainly a remap for more power will get rid of the daft recall BUT you must make sure that the remap is compatible with continued use of the DPF and EGR system, anything which compromises the function of these systems is undesirable and illegal.

    Undesirable ?

Very desirable and done by the majority of remaps involving dpf .

    Everything is illegal..

Gaz, with the bad press Diesel is getting due to its NOX and particulate emissions, can you really honestly still take that view? Diesel is wrong morally and making its output worse downright criminal, thousands of people are dying every year from Diesel pollution and taking off the devices meant to reduce the pollution is literally killing people.

So is shipping and every central heating boiler .

I periodically will not have any of my engines consume their own excrement.

I ran around my town twice a week for 15 years , my lungs must of dealt with millions of litres of polluted air , I'm not dying...

You won't have your engines eat their own **** but you do not mind it being pumped out across the road for children to breath in? You aren't dying yet but lots of others are, I suffer from late onset Asthma which I think was brought on by my working on diesel cars from the early 90's and each time I go into our heavily congested city centre I feel my chest tighten up and I need my inhaler, at other times I hardly use it. I agree that shipping, overall domestic use (not just central heating), agriculture and most of all industry are to blame for 75% of certain emissions but urban NOX and particulate emissions are primarily down to diesel engined vehicles in the summer and a growing menace in the winter, wood burning stoves which chuck out terrible levels of particulates unless the wood used is properly seasoned. The terrible truth is, the motorist is an easy target, successive governments have found and exploited the fact that if you touch domestic issues you will get your fingers burnt and if you try having a go at industry, you get set upon by the unions and manufactures representatives so they turn to the easy solution, make the motorist pay as mostly we just grumble and pay up.

Someone has to die , natural selection...

If we ALL lived there will not be enough electricity to go around to charge up the silent pedestrian killers .
