    2009 Golf

    Hi all,

Thinking of buying a 2009 Golf 1.4 TSI S. Similar to below:

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...us=1500&page=1

I need something cheap to run about in - but it also needs to be fun to drive and reliable. Any other recommendations at all? Or anything I should look out for with these models?

Preferably don't want to spend more than 6k and no more than 50k miles.

    Thanks!

    New car

    Hi all,

I was thinking of buying a Golf. My requirements are that it needs to be less than 5.5k, manual, reliable, less than 50k miles and relatively cheap but fun to drive.

Any recommendations at all? I saw a 2009 1.4 (122 bhp) petrol model but I'm not sure on how reliable and good they are?

Also, I don't know what's going to happen with diesels so my preference would be a petrol model.

    Any help at all?

    Thanks in advance!

    Ben

EDIT: Sorry, just realised my post yesterday did actually send (eventually). Feel free to delete the other thread!

These little petrol engines can be fragile and suffer from terrible cam chain problems brought on by VW's stupid Longlife oil change interval insanity and burnt exhaust valves BUT at least it is not fuel of the Devil. The Best Buy is the GTi as it has the only sensible engine BUT it is still sensitive to oil change intervals.

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

Oh ok! Maybe I'll give it a miss then. What would you recommend with a 6k budget? Low mileage, manual, preferably not too old and 5 door are the main requirements I think.

GTI's are nice but they all seem to be 3 door around my budget. (Forgot to mention I needed a 5 door!).

Also, if not a VW, have you got any other recommendations?
