    Golf SV Cracks in Headlights

My Golf SV is 2 years old. It has cracks in both headlights. I have been told it is because the headlights are made out of plastic, and the heat of the bulbs have made them crack. Usually the cold wind, while driving, dissipates the heat, so I must have been standing still for prolonged periods with my headlights on.
    I haven't. I deny this.
I have been told that these headlights cannot be replaced under the VW warranty because the cracks do not interfere with the headlamp beam. I have also been told that this will not affect the resale value, because the salesman will not notice.
Am I allowed to post the garage's name?

    Hi Pie Man,

No one else seems to be responding to your query, so I'll add my two-penny worth for you

Have you fitted uprated bulbs with a higher heat output? In all my years of driving, have never heard of headlights cracking in the way you have described... and that includes all the cars that I have added high-intensity bulbs to. The only time I have experienced a cracked headlight was when it was hit by a stone leaving a clear impact mark on the lens.

How big are the cracks? If they are so small that they will not be noticed when you resell the car, then they will probably not have any effect on the beam. But will they grow and let water in? And I'd think that they would only be covered under the warranty if you could prove a manufacturing defect.

Very common, people (including myself) have tried to polish them and in the end give up and fit news units, far less stress and mess.

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.
