    Petrol DSG oil/filter change info.

As is the norm with our less than efficient Dealer was told at booking 4 th service at 38000 miles
it needed an DSG oil change so booked it in to include it.

When we arrived to have it done was now told your car has a "sealed for
life DSG box with lifetime oil" so it wouldn't be done.
I asked for it to be confirmed on the invoice (typed not scribbled on as
after thought) as I'm afraid I don't necessarily trust them to get it right.
They got it wrong with the cam belt change.
As we have a 5 year warranty (that they initially denied we had) it's important
we have no hassle if the DSG goes belly up before the 5 years is up.

I confirmed with VW Customer Service the above is correct (doesn't need one)
and applies to the 7 speed DSG dry clutch fitted to our 1.4 TSI.
The Diesel version is a wet clutch, and I didn't ask whether this
    requires an oil/filter change.

We had a Yeti in on Monday where the lady had bought the car from a Skoda dealer a year or so ago and she had been sent a letter saying it needed its cam belt changing as it is four years old. The problem is from 2009 the interval is 5 years on a diesel and there is no actual petrol interval but it is judged as also being 5 years but to make things worse this particular Yeti was a 1.2 FSI petrol with.... chain drive.......

As lifetime could be potentially 200K miles it seems to be a wonderful system that is expected to continue working reliably on what must be degraded oil. Especially with the earlier issues with DSG boxed that required a change to mineral oil to address issues.

Our Yeti DSG box was troublesome from 15000 miles on and Skoda would not admit it until they were forced to commit to a general recall/fix it program. Timing chain issue was similarly ignored for way too long.

Based on experience will always opt for 5 year factory warranty when purchasing a DSG car.
In addressing a warranty issue told by Dealer our 5 year warranty was not showing up on their computer system. (luckily had documentation to prove it).

It seems there is an 'investigation charge' if you have a problem outside of warranty period on top
of the labour and parts charge which seems excessive (was quoted 60 to investigate water in light
for example). Another reason an extended warrenty may be a good idea.

The oil issue on the dry clutch DSG was something no well meaning contentious engineer would have expected. They specified synthetic oil as any keen enthusiastic engineer would, only to find an additive in the environmentally friendly oil reacted with the flux used in the environmentally friendly solder which caused corrosion and changing to mineral based oil solved the problem, if the solder had been lead based this would not have happened.....

Our problem was a random intermittent 'judder and grating noise' over a long period
and if I recall had the oil change to mineral but was never fixed and as the timing chain
was going (told by 2 non Skoda mechanics to get fixed quick) we got rid as Skoda Dealer no help.
(they wanted 1600 up front to investigate as computer showed no fault).
Not had a good experience with VW group service so strange we persevere (we like the car)!!
Quite like the Kodaq but may not repeat an unpleasant experience even if we like it.

The bit I find annoying is an arrogance and unwillingness to consider the customer may be the right
one. At least they have hopefully learned some painful in the pocket lessons on more than 1 issue
    recently.

In common with ANY manufacturers representatives, the independent motor trade finds that the call centre people accept that nothing whatsoever is known of and don’t believe anyone knows anything more than the pre prepared text on their screen.
