Does the cigarette lighter socket stay live

Does the cigarette lighter socket stay live when the engine is in the stop/start mode.

I want to use this electric supply without interruption while driving.

    New Golf April

    Thanks

Yes, but not with the ignition off.

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

Thanks Crasher, I would be using this for a safety camera supply.

You would only use the safety camera while you were driving, the cigarette lighter would be live.

You can make the 12v socket permanently live by moving its fuse to a second position in the same slot within the fusebox should you wish, however it it as you say usually ignition switched.

For 30.00 Halfords will do a hardwired installation (including parts) leaving the power socket free. I've had it done twice and been well impressed, the guy had the kit and knowledge to remove panels without damage.

I hard wired my dash cam into my fusebox. You just need to partly open the panel on the side of the glovebox to feed the cable through. The bit thats covered when the door closes. Fuse box is located behind glovebox by pulling it fully open. You would still be able to just unplug your camera for use in another car if required. You would need to buy a hardwire lead for your car and you would just use the original lead for plugging it into any other car.

Thanks homesqueeze, that sounds a neat idea, may well do this.
