VW Polo 2002 - Air con suddenly blasting hot!

Postby Gelly » Fri Jul 23, 2010 6:18 pm

Hi all

Newbie forum user here....

We've recently bought a 52 plate 2002 Polo SE from a private dealer but they've had the car back for the last 2 days as we're getting a recurrent fault.

4 times in 6 weeks, the air con has been working perfectly (in fact it's pretty damn cold!) and it suddenly goes really hot. The speed of the air is the same as it was before but the heat it's blowing out is roasting...it's def not just warm air from outside. The light on the AC button is still illuminated too.

The garage used by the private dealer has been in touch with VW UK but they say they've never heard of this fault before. They've cleaned up some sensors and have given it back to us but told us it might be "a niggly fault we have to live with".....

While it's under warranty, I want to get this sorted out

Any ideas?

Thanks all
Gelly

A fault code read of the heating system will show a fault with one or more of the air control flaps.

Thanks Crasher.

The garage came back to me and told me there were 7 (!!!!) fault codes logged but still not sure what it was so have cleared out the sensors and are hoping for the best.

Ironically, earlier today, hubby was driving car to work but with no air con on and the fault occurred again. This is the first time it's happened when the air con hasn't been on so could it be a problem with the heater?

I'm contacting the garage again tomorrow morning and they can have it back....again.

Now they have cleared the codes (I hope they kept a record) they can read it again and see what comes back. Get both code reds off them if you want me to advise you.
