2004 1.2E Polo ECP light intermitent problem!

Postby History man » Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:29 pm

Hi

I have been having an intermitent problem with my Polo since I bought it, and was sondering if anyone could help to diagnose it. I have taken it to garages and no-one seems able to track the fault down.

Every so often the ECP (engine management light) comes on.
The needle for the rev counter can jump up and down between approx 5 and 25 - this only happens when waiting with the car in neutral e.g. at traffic lights.
Recently the car has cut out whilst turning at junctions - the battery light comes on and the car completely cuts out and then struggles to restart.
Sometimes the car can lose power whilst driving - it feels as if I need to change down a gear, but when I do this the power drops even more.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

The only thing I can suggest to start with is that it has a fault code read carried out on all the cars systems. The EPC (Electronic Performance Control) light indicates the ECU is worried out its control over the throttle body and can be as simple as a faulty brake light switch or as serious as a mechanical problem with the engine.
