hello.this is my 1st post so bear with me pls!!!
ive just bought some 18" alloys for my 96 golf vr6 which fit and all that.the problem i think im going to have is stopping!ive got corrado vr6 brakes on at the mo but need to know if i have to upgrade again.will r32 discs and pads go on?ive done calculations on a site and coz ive increased size by more than 3% it says my brakes may not work(fail was the term used).the dimensions if the wheels and tyres are 215/35/18.thanks a lot.
I wouldn't think you have Corrado VR6 front brakes as they only ever came as 280-mm discs with Girling calipers and the later Golf 3 VR6 (like yours) came with 288-mm discs and ATE calipers. Nevertheless, it is a simple bolt on conversion to take your front brakes to 312-mm using Golf 4 parts or even further using R32 or Seat Leon Cupra R Brembos.
Aaah rite.sounds like the person who sold me the car was telling porkies then,no1 in thier right mind would put smaller brakes on!!hope not anyway!thanks for you're help on that matter
I bought a 96 8v Gti, When the time comes to change pads..... after 4 visits, eventually had to take a pad in to the shop, found i have passat VR6 brakes, yes, Passat VR6, not very common in the UK, £55 for front pads, still fit under 17" rims though. :?:
All 95 onwards VR6's and 16v’s (and 96 on 8v’s) used the 288-mm front discs with ATE calipers as on the Passat VR6 from the same year which is referred to as the PR-1LN option and are only used on cars with the PR-2E1 front suspension, i.e. those with 5 stud wheels. Look at the data sticker in your service book or on the boot floor and you will see, in amongst the other codes, 1LN. The pads are VW part number 1J0 698 151 L, the same as mid range Golf 4's and the genuine VW price I have is £44.65 inc. VAT but that is a little out of date.
