    Did 11 oil changes in 22K / 6 years on the Passat and one more to do before it finds a new home .

    Got a Merc S204 derv now , it requires 229.51 but stuck 507.00 in it along with a Gold plug magnetic sump plug today .

    According to the Lubrizol Relative Performance Comparison tool I lose a tiny bit of fuel economy and piston deposits but gain better anti wear and dpf compatability.

    However alot of 507.00 oils include 229.51 anyway and such is the case with Fuchs Quantum LongLife III that was used .

    My bother in law's Volvo S40 1.6D has been using Quantum 507.00 and getting 60+ miles/gallon.

    I've changed to Miller's XF Longlife ECO 5w30 A5/B5 (Millers recommend) on the last change to see if it improves any.

    I came across a comment posting on youtube although I've lost the video I copied it from.

    "You are so wrong, 507.00 only "covers" the 505.01 specs (on paper) and is made for the newer PD engine like the 2.0TDI. The 505.01 oil was specifically formulated to ensure protection of the cam lobes for the 1.9 tdi engine. Main reason the 2.0TDI engines do brake so often is because of 507.00 not made for its purpose."

    Is this statement factual?

    Lol , most of the cam lobe B5.5 issues I've heard of and asked about longterm oil spec were with using 505.01 as evident in the Lubrizol Relative Performance Comparison tool for wear compared with 507.00 .

    2.0 tdi Passat B6 engines were designed to self destruct after 80k , 77mm oil pump balancer shaft drive only having 15mm contact length .

    Most obliged Gazwould.

    507.00 is specified for the VW TDI common rail engine as well.

    My nephew's 2011 Polo TDI has the CFWA engine.

    As an alternative and if the top protection isn't required , absolutely vital on PD but not so on common rail , MB 229.52 could be used , not so good on dpf but aces fuel economy .

    Had to look at sticking brakes on a '94 reg Merc C220 petrol (111.961 engine) this past week for an uncle of mine.

    I agreed to sort out a service for it while I was on.

    I was tempted to put Quantum LL in but that's 5w30 MB229.51 and Millers reckon 5w40 MB229.5 for the engine. The car's actually had W5 brand oil in from Lidl, 15w40 grade and not even an MB spec stated on the tub's label.

    Managed to get a 6L pack of genuine Merc 5w40 MB229.5 for 32 so all is well.

    Can't find a specs sheet for the Daimler AG blend but here's one for Millers version of MB229.5
