ESP/ABS and Tyre Pressure warning lights

    Hi all,

I've come to this forum for a bit of help.

I was driving in Passat CC 2011 doing just under 40mph and hit a pot hole which effected the left tyres of the car. About 2 mins after this incident and stopping a at a red light I noticed ESP/ABS Error came up on MDI and Pressure light also. So think this isn't coincidence and this error was caused by hitting the pot hole as I never had the error before.

I took it to a local garage he hooked up his computer software and it told him rear offside abs sensor was at fault. We replace the ABS sensor however the error was still there. He then suggested changing the wheel hub as this has sensor inside it but at the same time he wasn't sure and said it could be the wiring potentially.

So I didn't want to risk changing this part for no reason as well. He said I should go to the VW dealer and get a full report from them about the car for about 60 and then come back to him. However while I feel they will have more knowledge on theses matters isn't it nothing a local VW specialists or even VAG COM etc can bring up?

Any thoughts on how to proceed here?

    Thanks

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Did this garage have VAG-COM\VCDS or a generic scanner?

VW dealer diagnostic check I'm told by members of this forum is 177. The ABS sensors on newer vehicles are built into the wheel bearing which has to be replaced.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

Hi Keithuk. He has a generic scanner worth over 2k he mentioned. I will try to get a scan dump. however I spoke to VW in Leeds they said 60 for diagnostic but it could be more if more time or if complex.

Your friend may be on the right track, the wheel hub has a ferrous magnetic ring bonded to the steel and this rusts away and can damage the sensor when it breaks up, it is very common on this rear suspension system used on the PQ35 and PQ46 platforms BUT it is a little young in my experience to be suffering from this.

It just wanted to bump this after posting the techical info, still haven't done anything with car yet but the best way forward is changing the wheel hub (with genuine part)?

    Hi guys,

I've just changed the rear offside wheel hub and error is there. Not sure what to do other than dealer or vw specialist.
