    Front passenger headrest removal?

In order to put a 1.95m x 0.65m package in 16reg car I have to put front seat down fully but found the headrest doesn't come out completely, so the package would be resting on it meaning its too close to me. Is there no way to remove it completely?

I have never noticed on a Golf 7 but all the rest have a catch you press in on one strut for each restraint.

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

I had the same problem in my Golf SV a few weeks ago, and ended up having to put a long thin box upright on the armrest between the front seats. I couldn't see anyway to remove the headrest either... and wondered if I should have chosen the front-folding front seat option after all

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

    Your car spec says 0.

On mine you press the catch and it pulls up.

    Not on mine.
The two chrome stems go into two black plastic collars. It appears that these two collars have to be raised slightly to enable a flat blade screwdriver to press a spring loaded clip (one on each stem!!) and I would suspect these clips both need to be held in which would entail a willing assistant pulling the headrest out.
This seems to be a bit OTT for such a simple task and someone correct me if I am wrong.
A two man job to remove a headrest VW?? Some sort of safety feature?
Now this has hurt my neck and not advisable for a pensioner on a Sunday morning.

Yes, my 2016 Golf GTE has this very odd way of removing the front headrests which needs you to grab a passerby to pull the headrest out while you have your hands full with a credit card in each hand, trying to push in some unseen catches under the caps covering the seat holes where the uprights fit in. I just have to say WHY!!!!!!!
