    Rectifying poor lowering choices!

    Hello everyone

Posting here on behalf of my wife for her mk6 1.6 TDi. We are looking to do some work to make it like new again and suspension is first on the list!

So when we bought the car, it was already lowered (estimate about 40mm drop). But the previous owner had just put lowering springs on the stock shocks. Needless to say the ride isnít great. Solid hitting bumps but too much bounce on uneven roads.

She would like to keep the car lowered, but only tootles about. No need for premium performance kits. I have suggested aiming for a 25-30mm drop from standard. From my understanding this would be somewhere close to a stock GTi?

I have done some looking about and found a kit made by ST suspension in the region of £400. (Looking to spend around £400-500). Link for ST suspension kit ó> https://www.europerformance.co.uk/pa...70;car=vwgolf6

The other option would be to try and source some stock GTi shocks and springs.

I would appeciate any advice on the best options available or if anyone has experience with ST suspension kits.

    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Just priced the bilstein shocks and eibach springs and the total comes in very similar to the ST kit I linked above.

Any thoughts on the difference between the 2 kits?

Choice of two on Eibach depending on your front axle weight which is figure 1 on your VIN sticker ?

Billy B4 choice of two on front depending on strut diameter , 50 or 55mm ?

ST is good stuff made by KW and is what used to be Weitec which is was the UK importer for around a decade and some of the older kits even upto Golf 4 are still made to specifications I worked out with the companies founders, Peter and Fritz.

How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

Measured the circumference of the lower strut last night. Difficult to measure with the wheel on, but I got 170mm. That works out at 55mm diameter.

Crasher, any experience with ST? Do you have an opinion between ST and Bilstein?
