    MIG welders

Looking for some advice on portable MIG welders.

Looking for a small MIG welder to do mods and minor repairs, nothing structural, what are you lot using or would recommend?

I would not know where to start myself if I needed a new one as there is a huge choice now, I bought mine 25 years ago, made in Germany, and it was daft money then, most budget machines are Chinnese now.

Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

A country wide company called Machine Mart stock a comprehensive range of MIG welders. I owned one for eight years and used it for many applications.
Buy wire in large spools rather than the small one supplied and source a CO2 bottle with decent gauges.

Just looked at their site and they have a vast array, much more choice than when I bought mine way back in 1989 when I was building trailers.

I was in there last week (Nottingham is the main depot) buying a jump starter pack and their choice of Mig's is bewildering.

When I was alive and busy I was banned from Machine Mart in Leeds, Newcastle and Bolton by my wife who felt that money could be better spent in M&S clothing department.
However when I frequently hauled steel into Ebbw Vale I was able to locate a Machine Mart in Cardiff but parking 44 tonne could be difficult.
The depots are simply wonderlands and furthermore nothing I ever bought there (a frightening £amount) ever let me down.
I miss that life but I can recommend that company to anyone.
