2002 Beetle 1.8 automatic torque converter

Hi folks need a little help if possible we own a 2002 Beetle 1.8 20 valve turbo petrol automatic I've recently recovered it on works breakdown truck as my wife was unable to start it suspect starter motor but on inspection had a new starter! After I removed it I could see clearly that the teeth had been chewed of the torque converter but now I'm struggling to find a replacement any ideas or suggestions of company's that may be able to salvage the old one I can get one from the vw dealer at nearly 700 quid it's never worth it any help plzzzzzzz

The starter motor doesn't engage in the torque converter, it engages with the flywheel ring gear.

I can't give you the part number as my ETKA isn't working at the moment. This site uses ETKA sections https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/b.../9/911-911000/

Keep this site in your favorites/bookmarks for future reference. Google the correct part number.

Hi thanks for reply but I've removed the gearbox and torque converter and the ring gear is welded to the torque converter I was hoping to just replace the ring gear but clearly luck has other ideas

You could try an auto box specialist to get the convertor overhauled but that isn’t going to save you much or see if you can find one used.

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.
