    New to VW Touran

    Good evening

We as a family have just bought a 08 Touran SE 2.0 TDI 140PS.
Looking forward to owning it and looking to do some subtle mods to incorporate using a iPhone and a android phone for each driver. Also looking at possibly upgrading standard headunit to sat nav touch screen version. Will at some stage need to fit a towbar recommendations greatly received.

If you are doing any electrical mods it helps if you are familiar with CANBUS, mistakes can be expensive. Towbars I have a Westfahlia detachable swan neck with VW CANBUS Trailer Module. You can't simply wire up the trailer socket by patching into the wires to the rear lights. The VW Trailer Module adapts the rear parking sensors to work correctly with a trailer and also modifies the operation of the ABS and ESP to account for the trailer.

If you are changing headunits its probably safest to stick with a VW unit from a PQ35 platform vehicle - to avoid compatibility problems or go for the Kenwood unit. I personally continue with my Garmin mounted at the bottom of the screen the middle above the dash top storage, Garmin updates are free and VW ones are really expensive ( two updates cost more than a Garmin!), also the headunit position in the Mk1 Touran is, to me, too low in the dash for use as a sat nav, I prefer my satnav's to be more or less in slight without having to take my eyes off the road.

Standard headunits with Bluetooth and Phone support will allow for multiple phones to be paired, having the Media Interface in the glovebox between the front seats is useful. Iphones work well with media interface there is a special connector for them. Android phone only works with Bluetooth audio and cannot be controlled via the headunit whereas the iPhone music is controllable via the headunit. I have my Ipod permanently connected and operate it completely via the headunit and steering wheel buttons.

There are some very good OEM retro fit specialists who can pretty much retro fit any compatible VW accessory/option - I have used Hazzy Dayz.

    Welcome to the forum.

Its nice to see you made an intro on your own.

You car spec says 0, only what I've added from this post.

Matching phones can be a pain in the backside there is a VW site you can Google that lists all phones. This has been talked about many times if you look in In Car Entertainment section.

400 is too cheap, it should be around 450 if using a genuine kit and pump which is the only way we will do it

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.
