2013 Golf TDI - Heater matrix + Windows

Hi, i have recently bought a 2013 Golf BlueMotion TDI mk7. I fell in love with the car on viewing it but have since discovered i have been had. On driving it home i found that the heaters were only blowing cold air. Have since found out that this is a common problem in mk7 VW where the heater matrix needs replacing and takes 9 hours labour to remove the dashboard to access it !

Also, all of the electric windows are working with the controls on my driver side.. however, none of the windows will work via their individual switches.

Already spent a lot of money on this car and i know the heater problem is going to be expensive. Any help or advice regarding these problems will be greatly appreciated as i love the car but feel like i have bought a money pit.

    Regards, Lewis

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Your car spec says 0, only what I've added from this post, minus TDI engine size.

Maybe Crasher can help if the mk7 Golf heater matrix are a problem. I know they are a long job to replace.

Post moved to correct section as OP can't read sub forum titles.

Yes the MQB platform (i.e. Golf 7 etc) is prone to heater matrix problems BUT it takes about 5 hours to change and does NOT entail removing the dashboard, we did one on an 8V Audi A3 last week which exactly the same but a little more involved because of the centre consul, still only a six hour job. It is IMPERATIVE that the cooling system is back flushed clean before changing the matrix.

Hi Crasher, thank you for your reply and also apologies to admin for posting in the incorrect section.

Great news that this isnít a dashboard job, myself and my father are quite mechanically minded so do you think this is something we could do ourselves? As all the garages are telling me itís 9 hours and around £13/1500

Is the heater matrix accessed via the centre console? And do you know if the Silca bag in the expansion bottle should be removed or should i purchase a new bottle ?

    Thanks in advance, Lewis.

I have never seen the tea bag, only heard about it. The one we did the other day took six hours but was an type 8V Audi A3 so the centre consul is a bit more of a pain to take out. When ordering the matrix, do not forget the fitting kit. We are still disappointed with the results though, to help we add a foam strip all the way around (1H0 819 019 at about £10 and off the Golf 2, 3 and 4) which we feel helps stop air getting around the sides but it needs some silicon grease to help it stop snagging when being pushed in. The problem we find with the right facial vent air being colder can only be improved by removing the dash and insulating the ducting. Remember it MUST be flushed to extreme and bled electronically.
