    2015 Tiguan 2.0L towbar Electrics

    Hi
I have just purchased a 2015 (November) Tiguan 2.0L and would like to fit a towbar which is simple enough but the hard part come when you go to fit the electrics I want to fit a Euro socket 13 pin as I tow a caravan,
I am a little concerned about the cambus rejecting my attempts, I have heard all sorts of horror stories about lights flashing and other problems, I would also like to fit a reversing camera to the vehicle saves on bumpers while attaching the caravan
so any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated

    Regards

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

When you post a question you should give the correct details. You posted in Touran but your car spec says 2015 Tiguan 2.0 TDI.

When fitting a tow bar VW have a Control Module for Trailer/Towing Sensor (J345) which has to be coded with VAG-COM\VCDS.

    Title changed and post moved.

As Keith says there is a specific Trailer Electrics module that is needed to communicate correctly with the CAN BUS system. This module does more than simply make the lights work correctly, when the trailer is conencted (or more precisely when the 13 pin socket is in use) it modifies the way the ABS and stability control systems work to accomodate the additional weight at the rear.

Hi thank you for your reply yesterday following on from your reply I spoke with a car spark today and he backed up everything that you had said, I never thought that the cambus did so much, I would never have thought about it altering the ABS or the stability control, as a result I will be taking it to a towbar specialist who fitted a few before for me I have now gone of the idea of fitting the reversing camera as it just doesn't seem worth the rise of upsetting everything
once again thank you very much

    regards

    Thanks for your email John.
We were certainly in the same business at the same time in the same area!
Glad you found a suitable fitter a bit closer to you than my guys are.
I'll send you a mail back soon and see how good your memory is, probably better than mine

    towing with a Tiguan

    Hi

I thought that as Keith is offline at present I would slip this quick question in to the forum and hope that it is in the right place

I have just bought a 2015 Tiguan 2.0L and will be towing a reasonable sized caravan she come it at 1459 KG which is fairly close to the Tiguans max

my question is, are there any suitable rear spring that I could fit to assist her or any other modifications that you may think that would be beneficial

my Tiguan is a front wheel only drive

    regards
