    faster vw beetle

Hello sorry for asking this question in wrong beetle section but I currently drive a 2005 Beetle 1.4 and was thinking about buying a Beetle 2.0 with roughly same year. My question to you is how much faster is it to drive. I know what it like to drive on paper but to actually To drive I mean is there any point upgrading as my 1.4 is very sluggish ( what do you expect for a 1.4 I know) any way any help will do

The 2L is a rough old dog of an engine, it has good torque low down but is very gruff. I remember test driving one in 99 with a view to getting Mrs Crasher one, I could not believe it was not a diesel it was so harsh, she ended up in a Polo 16v with the same engine as your Bug! The pick of the crop is the 1.8T if you can find one (I have a rag top one in tomorrow for a service), the engine is a little anodyne but can be pepped up with just a remap, myself and Mrs Crasher have the same engine in our daily drivers.

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

I've recently bought a 2003 Beetle 2.0 and it's hardly a ball of fire (admittedly it's lumbered with an autobox, which probably doesn't help matters). I've not driven a 1.8T but as Crasher says above they can go pretty well after a remap, or so I've heard. I did have a V5 Mk4 Golf which went well and made a lovely noise, it was pretty ruinous on fuel though. I'd have bought one of those, if they'd ever have fitted that engine into the Cabrio..

    Cheers,

It was available between 2005 and 2010 but not sure if it was in the UK, never seen one. I have a Toledo V5 20v in on Monday, it does make a nice noise.
