    Rear fog lamps

Is it possible to have two rear fog lamps (one on each side) rather than just the o/s one? I think a matching pair always looks so much better and, arguably, is twice as effective than a single one.

That's the way VW cheapskate on saving money. My Golf has only 1 rear fog light and 1 reversing light. When 2 of each would be better.

I wanted to do the same with my Touran, the light cluster has the connector for the bulb, it had wires connected so I drilled out the light unit and fitted a bulb. At this point I was quite confident. I spent hours with VCDS trying to find a setting that would illuminate the foglight but failed. There are numerous posts on various VAG sites about how to do it but I wasn't able to make it work. Link to photos https://www.volkswagenforum.co.uk/sh...ad.php?t=26406.

In some cases the type approval requirements dictate 1 fog light on the vehicles offside as two can hide the brake lights, we don't need two rear blinders being left on anyway, one is bad enough and what is it with people driving around with their front fogs on? Why?

Thanks for everyone's comments, and I am most definitely in the same camp as others about the use of front fog lights.

However, is it possible to get both rear ones working? I am not sure the question has been answered.

It is BUT technically it is against EU rules. I have done it for people just by recoding the central electrics unit but this does not seem to work for some people.

I had to do exactly this when I imported my LHD Touran from Germany. Simply putting in a bulb didn’t work so the garage took a live from the opposite cluster, works just fine with 2 fog lights and it passed its MOT and VSA Inspection so having two working fog lights is not against EU Rules, or if it is as crasher (oh wise one) suggests the the VSA and MOT garage were being lenient on that particular day.

The trouble is, two bulbs on the same circuit could overload and damage the central electrics board which is expensive. I have only been asked to do this a couple of times but I am sure the wire is there to the left unit. Look at the wiring diagram, it shows what you need to know. There should be a black/blue wire to the bulb holder at position 2. Hopefully the diagram will appear when Flickr sorts itself out!

Doing it that way also makes both bulbs (slightly) dimmer than the single one would've been on its own, due to the doubling of the voltage drop down the main wire, with doubling of the current.
