Car wonít start after new crank sensor

Hi. I have just fitted a new Delphi crank sensor to my 1995 AGG engine on my 1995 Golf GTI 2.0 8v, but now it won’t start.
I fitted this as a preventative measure as all the wires on the old one were exposed.

The method I did was, oil filter, starter motor and engine mount off, replace the sensor and then back together.
now, the car just turns over and does nothing. When I turn the ignition on, I can hear the fuel pump priming, but then it just turns over.
i realise I have probably either disturbed something or it’s a faulty new sensor. I have had some people say that Delphi sensors are no good, but is this always the case. It was still £40, which is toward the top end unless it’s from the dealers where I was quoted £138!
Any help is greatly appreciated. I have had a look and can’t see that I have disturbed anything, but it’s not out of the question.
    Cheers.

Who or what told you the crank sensor needed replacing?

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

Thanks for the reply. I changed it as the old one had exposed wiring along most of its length. A few people said it will cause problems if I didnít get it sorted.
Iím going to try refitting the old one first quickly to see if it works, then if not Iíll have a look in my local area, see if there is a mobile vag com.

You don't say your location in your profile? We do have VAG-COM/VCDS User Locations but very few members add their details.

Hi. Sorted! I fitted a different sensor and it fired straight up! Going to return the other one for a refund.
Hopefully just one of those things.

    Iím just outside Peterborough.
I have looked into buying the vagcom for myself, but from what I can see itís windows based? Iím not a whizz with computers, but I have a Mac so getting any type of windows laptop would make it quite pricey.
