Most generic code readers will not show anything other then OBDII codes and with the symptoms you describe it must have a code in the engine and ABS ECU's, it needs a VAG specific system such as VCDS, VCP or the dealer system ODIS.

How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

There are no genuine VAG-COM\VCDS cables on fleabay. Only cheap Chinese cloned cables but they are Banned subjects

Dodgy code read but start by replacing the in cylinder head wiring harness.

It depends what you used to scan for those error codes, generic scanner or VAG-COM\VCDS?

    VAG Error Code: 16685/15125/10591/4054/000769
    EOBD II Error Code: P0301

    Fault Location:
    Cylinder 1 - Misfire Detected

    Possible Cause:
    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
    Lack/loss of power.
    Hard start.
    Engine hesitation.

    Wiring/Connector(s).
    Ignition system.
    Fuel injectors.
    Fuel pressure.
    Running out of fuel.
    EVAP canister purge valve.
    Evaporative emission system.
    Low compression.
    Base engine problems.
    Engine Control Module (ECM) damaged.

    Possible Solutions:
    Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
    Do a compression test.
Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) 15 if misfire changes location.

    Special Notes:
This feature search for engine misfire in a specific cylinder. Most of the time the cause for a misfire is a lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, or poor compression.

    Tech Notes:
The P0301 code means that the cylinder 1 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 1. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.

    Description:
When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor [G28]/Crankshaft Position Sensor [G28] signal to vary, the Engine Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

I've just posted the same error code on another forum tonight.

    VAG Error Code: 18074/005734
    EOBD II Error Code: P1666

    Fault Location:
PD Unit Injector: Cylinder 1 (N240)/Valve for Pump - Jet: Cylinder 1 (N240) - Electrical Malfunction

    Possible Cause:
    Irregular rpm.

Wiring/Connector(s) to/from the Valve for Pump Jet.
    Valve for Pump Jet.

    Possible Solutions:
    Check/Replace Wiring/Connector(s) and Check/Clean all connections.
Replace the cable-tree to/from all the Valves for Pump Jet.
Replace Valve for Pump Jet (replace them all !)

    Special Notes:
The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) checks the Begin of Injection Period (BIP) by sending a very small amount of current (less than 0.0001 A ) through each injector. Because the current is so small, any extra resistance in the wiring due to damage or corrosion can cause this fault. Before replacing injectors, replace the wiring harness first.

As taken from my new EOBD II Fault Codes Software
2010 Golf GTD (170) CBBB, 5 Door, Shadow Blue (P6/D5Q), Transmission Code: KXZ, Flat Tyre Indicator, Basic Protection Pack + VCDS.
