2011 1.6 TDI VW Golf Automatic 7 speed Gear Box,

I seem to have a issue with the Automatic Gear Box today on my
2011 Golf 1.6 TDI 7 speed MIL Gearbox, ( With Mineral Oil )
The Gear seem to be changing ok but the gear selected
showing on the Dash fluctuates between Gear selected be that ( forward or reverse )
    and a Spanner Symbol ?

( I have had for some time before this Symbol came up, had to ease of the accelerator
from a slow start from 1 to 2 gear with my trailer loaded going ( Up a Hill Only )
as the revs would go quite high before changing gear. !! )

Would it have any connection with the Volkswagen GOLF ECU (DSG Gearbox) ?
as there seem to be a company online that can repair and upgrade these
ECU Testing Ltd has anyone had any dealing with them

    Best Regards Pete

The spanner symbol means it needs a service. My thought on ECU testing are not postable, they are near us and one of my staff used to work for them. The only way to deal with it is by fitting a proper VW Mechatronic unit, we have done quite a few.

Thanks again Crasher for the info.

I will look into getting it serviced then.
I guess it will need a filter and Oil change ?
Hopefully it will not need the two clutch System replaced ?

There is no filter as the oil you lose is gear oil, the oil in the Mechatronic should not be touched as refiling is very difficult, a new unit comes pre-filled with big warnings about not tipping it up and losing the oil. The manual says you can't top it up but the parts system shows the oil....

    Hi Crasher,

DSG DQ200 7 speed Dry Clutch Service Entail
Is it an oil change with a software update?

As my Car seems to be working fine does the ECU Mechatronic unit detected slight imperfection / wear and now would need a software update.

Just wondering what triggers the Spanner Signal to come up on the dash

    Thanks again Pete

Will be talking to VW later today to book in.

Ok the result for the Flashing Spanner Signal sadly was not a service required
    Work Carried Out.
After the Diagnostic Scan and Road Test.
( Mechatronic unit required - Hydraulic Pump False Activation Protection.
and clutch replacement - Clutch 2 limits is reached . )
    Cost to follow

No the flashing spanner is purely in the dash indications, a box fault will not bring it on. I have done a few dry clutch Mechatronics now, not a daft number though and it is not a bad job to do, expensive part though...

Oh ok I was happy to look at changing the Mechatronic Unit,
But I would not be able to remove the Gearbox Assy and change the duel dry clutch Assy
Oh Dear. Oh Dear, Oh Dear
( Funny I had just passed the MoT Last Week )
Car Going in for repair tomorrow.
Still not sure why the Spanner Came up, but good job it did near home not on a long trip to Spain or Germany

As said the flashing spanner is the service indicator. Is it set for time/distance (10k) or longlife (20k)?

Now we know your gearbox code I've added that to your signature.

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for the update to my car profile
like you and crasher I did believe this to be my service spanner covering miles / days
So I checked it but it was not due yet, but anyway I did reset it just incase back to zero miles / and I think its 365 days,
drove some more and up came the spanner on the dash fluctuates between Gear selected be that ( forward or reverse )
    and a Spanner Symbol again.
I have now found out that this is the flashing spanner related to the Gear Box Assy that includes the Dry Clutch Assy, Mechatronic,
I have asked for the garage if they take some pics of the dry clutch assy, and Mechatronic change, and will post on here.
Thanks for all the help, this is a great site.
    Regards Pete.
