    2005 1.4l Gearbox

    Hi,
I have bought this beetle for my daughter, I have been told the gearbox needs replacing, so i'm trying to identify which gearbox it is and was this 1.4l fitted to any other VW, I've done a search but not found anything, is there anyone out there who could help me with this.

    Welcome to the forum.

Its nice to see you made an intro on your own.

You need to look at the data sticker. Data Sticker/Options Sticker and Engine Codes

Is it an manual or auto gearbox the 6 speed DSG were fitted to later years?

    e.g.

Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 01/2003-07/2005, Model: Beetle Cabriolet, Transmission Code: FDS, Transmission Type: 5S, Remarks: 02J Gearbox
Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 01/2003-07/2006, Model: Beetle Cabriolet, Transmission Code: FCH, Transmission Type: 5S, Remarks: 02J Gearbox
Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 01/2003-08/2006, Model: Beetle Cabriolet, Transmission Code: EGX, Transmission Type: 5S, Remarks: 02J Gearbox
Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 09/2002-08/2006, Model: Beetle Cabriolet, Transmission Code: EGT, Transmission Type: 5S, Remarks: 02J Gearbox
Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 06/2003-08/2006, Model: Beetle Cabriolet, Transmission Code: EGS, Transmission Type: 5S, Remarks: 02J Gearbox

As taken from my new VAG Engine & Transmission Codes

Your car spec says BCA engine code where did you get that from?

Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 07/2005-09/2010, Model: Beetle Cabriolet, Engine Code: BCA, 55Kw, 75PS, 1.4 Ltr, 4 Cyls, Remarks: 16v Bosch Motronic ME 7.5.10, MPI
2010 Golf GTD (170) CBBB, 5 Door, Shadow Blue (P6/D5Q), Transmission Code: KXZ, Flat Tyre Indicator, Basic Protection Pack + VCDS.

Just an update, I have a mechanic friend taking the gearbox off for me next weekend, So I am going to take a look myself to see the damage, I managed to find one used gearbox for 420 if all else fails.

    Hi Again,
Gearbox out, removed bell housing, found the roll pin out of the diff had broken, the main pin moved and was rubbing on the casing, so I'm trying to find out if the bell housing is the same on all new beetle's, what I was hoping to do was buy a cheaper box just for the housing or even buy a used bell housing, any ideas anyone??
Thanks John( the numbers on one of the photos is i think just the bell housing number)

The housing is 400 but it is very difficult to set up to the diff and shafts, it is all done with multiple shims although the 02T is easier than the eraser 02K boxes. The differential is the worst bit.

    Hi,
I'm back again with an update, I took the bell housing to a fabrication shop and had it repaired, so I'm happy with that, but i'm trying to identify and buy this bronze part, both were broke
