    Are vw engines reliable?

    Hello everyone,

I heard that they are really unreliable, and I'm thinking of buying a touareg, but this problem might turn me off. Help please!

I had owned a 2003 golf (still golf 4 though) and had very little problems with it, but i have heard that people are having a lot of engine/electrical problems with never volkswagens. Also the Touareg that i'm talking about is 2015 model.

    Any help will be Appreciated!

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Your car spec says 0. Can I suggest that you add your car spec to your signature as it will save users asking every time, if you know the engine code that will also be great? Oh you can't do this of a phone. Adding your car spec

We have fewer issues with modern VW engines than we ever had back in the early 80's, modern engines are simply amazing in their reliability IF they are looked after. What has hurt VAG's reputation is these stupid long life service intervals that we regularly see get abused to over 20K miles between oil changes which is simply daft but people do it, give people a boundary and they will push it. The other problem is all the emissions equipment, yes there are a lot of problems in these systems but these are ancillary devices (often made by outside companies like Valeo grrrrrr) which unfortunately reflect on the engine as a whole when observed by the inexperienced. Having said that we have a 2015 Seat Ibiza Bocanegra in with burnt out exhaust valves and a 2009 Audi TTS in with a destroyed block and crankshaft because the thrust washer failed and fell out! His bill will be 9K...

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

Yes very. For example a BKD is virtually bullet proof and do 300k without issue but the closely related BKP has had its .... "issues".... you might say!
