    97 MKIII Cabrio Alloys

    Hi all,

Looking to put some alloys on the Cabriolet I've just bought but getting a little lost in all the options.

Does anybody know what size the alloys are or what size is compatible for this model? I know they're 4/100s but I am unsure if I can put 17s on or have to go for 15s.
I believe it just has the basic trim level. Have electric windows, central locking and electric roof.

    Cheers

I would be looking at 13", 14" or 15" rims. The MK3 Golf isn't like the MK4 onwards Golfs that had bigger outside diameter tyres. Even 15" rims on the MK3 Golf have low profile 50 series tyres.

14" is often regarded as the best compromise between handling and comfort with tyre sizes that fit the MK3 Golf. So 185/60R14 tyres instead of 175/70R13 tyres or 195/50R15 tyres. All these three tyre sizes have the same outside diameter so the gearing stays the same. Even the load index of these three tyre sizes stays the same with a load index of 82 (475kg).

    Here's some 5.5Jx13 ET38 4x100 57.1 steel rims.

Make sure that you have four wheel bolts, as the VR6 MK3 Golf came with five wheel bolts to cope with all that extra power.

You could fit 175/70R13 or 185/70R13 to the 13" rims with the 175/70R13 being standard, and 185/60R14 or 195/60R14 to the 14" rims with the 185/60R14 being standard.
