    Worth the repairs?

    Hello.

I have a 2001 Golf SE Mark 4 1.6 model. I bought it for 2000 last year, as I felt it was worth it - 65000 miles on the clock. It has had 4 previous owners. I guess I should have considered that.

The MOT was done last September - passed with no advisories.

Now, the car has run well, but things are starting to crop up - first, my power steering pump packed up and it was repaired. The throttle body needs replacing. The oil sensor has been reported on the display - but I discovered it was not working when I checked the oil level one day and found it low. Fortunately I caught that in time.

Now the power steering rack has packed up and the pump has probably been damaged without the fluid which leaked out. I discovered that there was no steering fluid in the resevoir after the power steering stopped working and I had to go and fetch some to fill out - it just ran out - which makes me wonder why the rack was not checked when the pump was replaced.

My brakes have a shudder too now and I think the front springs probably need replacing. I have also no confirmation that the Cambelt was replaced at all - the car was under the 80 000 miles mark - but should have been replaced anyways.

So there is a lot to do on the car. Mechanically, the engine runs beautifully. I get 46-48 MPG on the car and it does go nicely. So my question is this: is it worth doing all the repairs and keeping the car in good knick after that? Or should I get another car and scrap/sell the car?

Any advice? I love VW. My wife drives a Lupo - which I would prefer to keep going for a long time - they are great cars. I want to buy a Touran or Sharan - or better still a Caddy with passenger configuration. (I had a lovely Caddy back in South Africa). I just can't buy now. But I don't want to spend 1000+ when I could pick a car for that price that may be in better knick.

I appreciate your wisdom. Hopefully I can get some advice to make the right decision.

IF it is an EU4 emissions version, I don't think it will be, then yes it is worth saving because as the T Zones spread out across the county, any EU4 petrol car is going to hold its value.

How do you know if it is an EU4 emissions version?
