    Tailgate wiring and rear washer

I had a problem with my rear screen wash and eventually got around to sorting it. First I saw a tube, which was broken, on the left hand side. Repaired it with heat shrink, still no joy and I discovered it went nowhere and came from nowhere. Did the same on the right hand side and, success. Why the tube on the left?

Now to the real reason for my visit. I have a problem with the wiring in the hatch. Main question is, apart from the heated rear screen, how the hell to you identify any of the wires? Do I have to tap them out with a DVM or is there some clever way of doing it? I must admit most pro's tell me tapping them out is the only way.

    Thanks in advance

It isn't easy to tell you about the correct wiring on a forum as there are so many. Its easier if you join and pay https://erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/showHome.do for a day. Any wiring can be saved as a PDF file.

Unless you know someone with ElsaWin.

OK, thanks Keith. I do know a guy who runs quite a large garage and he has all sorts of stuff he can access online. Maybe I'll ask him, although his electrics man said "tap 'em out".

I've got the Haynes Manual and there is a lot in there but without any markings it's gonna be tough. I used to have a tone oscillator and receiver for tracing telephone wiring. I might build something like that.

Often these wires are all white now which is very annoying so a DVM or logic probe is the only way. Can you here the pump motor run?

Thanks Crasher. That was the handle of one of my old 1970's/80's CB pals.

Sorry I sorted the wash wipe out, I just included it in the hope it might stop someone doing what I did, IE repaired the wrong pipe, which was about a foot long and went from nowhere to nowhere. And all the wires are indeed white.

My high level brake light, the rear hatch courtesy light switch and one rear side light bulb are kaput. The side light alarm has only just come on so it may have popped or be down to me jiggling the wires. I can see some text on the wires where they terminate, but nothing in the area where I feel the break may be. It's not something I'm unfamiliar with as my son and I have done this many times in the past. Usually a low wattage bulb with a croc clip at one end, a stanley knife blade on the other and carefully nicking of the insulation. I suppose if I took it to VW they'd want to sell new a new harness. The wiring on my old Galaxy (Sharan) with 240 thousand miles on it is the same. It's been patched out and soldered loads of times. Maybe its a VW thing?

Just thought there might be a trick to it and if you don't ask you dont get.

    Thanks.

    Not Nott's but Swansea.

I worked for the regulator but with the CB community. If we ever had interference problems on legit radio systems, I could take a recording to the local club and they would give a gypsy's warning to the offender. It was much better to keep them on side rather than wage war on them, and they caused less than 1% of the problems we encountered.

My boss even supported moves to make it legit and introduced me to Real Ale. Top man!
