    How Do!

New member from West Yorkshire. I thought I'd join up and get involved. I have an e-Golf as a daily and the missus has a Polo. Motorbike for the weekends.

I hope to be able to have at least a net zero effect on the forum if not a positive one.

How long do you intend to keep the electrickery car? What is the high voltage battery warranty?

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

Probably the 3yr PCP term. There'll be something with a touring range within my price bracket by then. I ran a Renault Zoe with 60 miles of electric range before the Golf. The Golf's is easily double if not 2.5 times the range. It allows me commute for a week without charging and since Jan I've managed to avoid paying for any of the electricity it's used since i do my weekly shop it Lidl who offer a complimentary charger.

On the battery warranty... What VW have to say is below but in my experience and the experience of the people I know with BEVs are that they haven't had any battery issues and VW are supposed to have a fairly battery friendly battery management system at the expense of the range's headline figure.

    VOLKSWAGEN E-GOLF AND GTE
    EIGHT-YEAR BATTERY WARRANTY
    1. A guarantee for eight years or 99,360
    miles/160,000km (whichever is soonest),
on all material or manufacturing defects.
    2. Gradual reduction in battery capacity
over times is integral to the nature of the
component, and does not represent a defect
under the terms of this guarantee, as long
as the reduction in capacity is not in excess
of the value specified for this vehicle in the
    owner’s manual.
    3. The guarantee on high voltage batteries
does not apply if the defect has been caused
by the battery not being used, handled or
maintained as described in the owner’s
manual. This applies in particular to charging
the battery, such as not charging on the CSS
(Rapid charge) function 3 times in a row.
Please check the owner’s manual for more
    details.
    4. With the exception of the warranty term,
all warranty conditions stipulated by the
    Volkswagen retailer selling the vehicle
    (prerequisites, criteria for freedom from
    defects, exclusions, settlement of claims,
entry into force and start of extended
warranty term, scope of application etc.)
also apply to the high voltage battery.

What worries me with these is that when the car is ten years old and the battery fails, who will pay 17K to have a new one fitted as currently (sorry, could't help myself) the battery is 15511.04 before installation and what happens to the old one? I think the whole idea is utterly bonkers and now Audio are recalling the new E Tron as they are a fire risk! The charge (!) for a battery in one of those is a reVOLTing 26206.56!
