Hello, first thanks to all the contributors on this thread (and forum), priceless information!
So, my 08 MK6 Golf 2.0l 140 CBAB has developed the same or v similar fault to the ones described here. I've got VCDS and a scan (below) shows the usual faults, 9571 & 665, suggesting actuator failure. On the back of this I stuck a pipe on the actuator vacuum inlet and found little if any resistance so it looks like the diaphragm's shot!
VW quoted £400 minimum to replace it and I've got a big family holiday coming up! I don't mind getting my hands dirty so am gonna do it myself after getting the recommended spanners (£16) and the VW replacement part kit (Borg-Warner @£127). But before I start I have a few questions and one request.
Does the (obvious) actuator failure throw up the two faults or is there something else that I need to look at replacing while its in bits?
Will driving the car with this fault damage anything, I've got to do the school run!!?
Can, with careful bolt measuring, I expect to fit the new actuator and it meet the tolerances and work properly without doing the VCDS set up? As I've got VCDS I could do it but don't know how. Does anyone have the instructions how to set it up, Crasher is there any chance I could get a copy of yours!? Thanks
Anything else to consider?
I'm praying it's not sticky vanes that have stressed the actuator, please not the vanes!!
(I've posted the same question on another forum to be sure, appologies if your reading twice)
Thank you!

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. Mine is one of the first Mk6's, on a 58 plate registered Dec 27 2008!
I see the turbo oil feed pipe is removed on the instructions, ever had any problems with air locks doing this when it's back together?
I haven't got a Mitty Vac! It doesn't look like I need one for set up?
If you look at your VIN it will be wvwzzz5Kz9W?????? signifying a 2009 model year car. A Mityvac or similar is vital, you cannot set it up otherwise.

I'm confused - Vin WVWZZZ1KZ9W4***** With 5K1 46L underneath. Log book "delivery inspection" says 11/12/08, on a 58 plate!?? (I had a piece of VW paper stating registration Dec 08 but I can't find it). The engine bay & actuator are identical to the one in the pics, only not as clean!
Wolfsburg production (the W at position 11) of the 2009 model year type 5K started on 1-10-2008 at VIN wvwzzz1Kz9W400001, private message me the full VIN and I can tell you the day it was born. Starting the new model year production in October is unusual as it is usually September, after the summer shut down but in some cases I have seen it as early as March!

Having actually read the info properly I can see I need a vac, so got one! The proceedure looks straight forward enough.
About to get the BorgWarner part, are they a worthy VW equivalent? Don't want cheap sh**
Have you ever done the this without removing the oil pipe, I've read it can be done but how much a PITA!?
I would only fit the VAG repair kit 03L 198 716 L at £180.03, your car was built as a 2009MY on 18.11.2008 and registered 29.12.2008, a type 5K1 46L with a CBAB engine and KRM box in LA7W Reflex Silver, reg F*5* **F, a Nottingham reg.
