Low oil pressure warning light and bleeping!

    Hi all

We have the red flashing low oil pressure warning lamp on the dashboard and the warning bleeps..

We have just had the cylinder head refurbished and have put everything back together

I've never seen this warning light before, and all levels are OK.

Any idea what the first thing to check would be?

I guess we could have made a mistake during reassembly, or could be a sensor issue? Where is the sensor located?

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

have you only just started the engine and have this issue or has it developed some time later?

Hi Crasher, yes it has started straight away after reassembly..

It doesn't come on when you turn they key and are just idling, but will come on and bleep when you start to increase revs, which seems strange because I thought pressure would increase with revs?

I have picked up a new sensor today and will try replacing, but other than that I have no idea

You have a system air lock, continue running it without purging the air lock and it won’t make the end of the road.

What's the best way of clearing the airlock? Loosening the oil filter while engine running?

Just an update on this one..

The new sensor didn't make any difference but when unplugged oil came straight out so airlock seemed unlikely.

Turns out there was a poor connection with the wiring into the plug, and once soldered up this solved the issue.

Thanks for your posts to help to resolve, any money not spent at garage really helps!

Have you ever heard bubbling in your central heating? If there is air in the oil pump the pump will struggle to move that air out and draw in oil many times more viscous and continue to do so. This is why you will see people prime oil systems in a rebuild by filling an oil pump with grease and filling the oil filter with oil, a typical generator or Roots type pump will struggle to move air unless it has huge capacity, capacity which will be a hinderance in normal running.
