Doh! Stupidly connected battery terminals the wrong way round!

    Hi all,

Mk3 1998 R - Reg Polo 1.0 formerly belonging to the ex. She doesn't want it. Has been sitting outside the house for a good few months, battery completely flat. Decided to charge up the battery and try and fire it up.

In a moment of pure idiocy, I've attempted to connect the battery terminals the wrong way round. Realised almost instantaneously and disconnected and reconnected the right way round, but now there's nothing, no life at all. I connected the battery back to the charger and it's gone straight into maintenance mode, so I assume the battery is good (it was quite new if I recall).

What damage have I likely done, and what should I be checking first?

    Thanks

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Are you mechanically minded if you connected the battery leads the wrong way around? The can damage the alternator and other electronics..

You need to get the battery checked out.

ECU, ABS, air bag, dash, immobiliser, radio, central locking pump.... all are likely toast and even fixing one will be more than the cars is worth.
