    EGR replacement

    Hi guys
I have a 2011 Passat 1.6 TDI. I had the emisions software update done about 2 years ago. Cars been fine. Last week i changed the EGR from local mechanic csr drove fine but coming back from a long journey the glow plug light started flashing.

Called AA they said it was a 40300 code egr fault. Reset and car seems to be fine.

Prior to this i got an abs fault 2 weeks prior but dont think this is linked.

    1) after egr replacement does it need vw to update software(i read somewhere this maybe the case?
    2) can the egr be faulty?
    3) could it have been fitted i correctly?
    4) can i reuse gaskets again if i change the egr as they have only been 1 week on car?

    Thanks

Your signature used to say 2011 Passat BlueMotion 2.0 TDI probably from your other posts, now your saying its 1.6 which I've changed.

The AA use a good generic scanner I don't recognise 40300.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

    Hi

    The AA code was

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) -circuit malfunction

    I think this is P0403

    Thanks

If he fitted a none genuine unit say from Euro Car Parts it will be faulty. I refuse to fit anything other than genuine now because they are such an awful job to change. The last one I did was a replacement for a replacement and it failed before we even got the car off of the lift.

They are one time only crush gaskets. Throw the unit back at ECP, get a genuine one from TPS (NOT their exchnage one) and when it works, put a claim into ECP for a fair few hours labour. WHY they keep selling these I have no idea, it must be costing them a fortune in claims.
