    Air con and dashboard switch

Hi, since i bought my 2009 Caddy 2.0 SDI the air con has never worked; neither has the dashboard switch ever lit up when pressed. Is this a common problem and/or an easy fix ? I took it to Halfords for a gas check and was told that its fine at that end.

Would it be simply that the switch i broken (as its not lighting up) or would this be some other issue (compressor for example)

Thanks for any answers, anything will help.

If you have had the AC checked and re-gassed.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

You should start with a scan of the J301 HVAC system which will probaly show low pressure. This is usually due to the G65 pressure sensor leaking and a new sensor plus a re-gas often cures it.

Thanks for the info Crasher; would a faulty air con system (a leaking pressure sensor) cause the light on the dashboard switch to not turn on ?

If the controller detects the pressure is low it will not turn on the light.

Without checking and from memory it is on the refrigerant pipe from the condenser in the right hand side of the engine bay adjacent to the engine mount behind the right headlight.

Yes I just had a look and can see it, its towards the front just adjacent to the radiator down below on the drivers side, easy enough access. So I will replace the sensor and re-gas the system and hope that was the problem. I did have a free AC check at Halfords and they said the pressure was fine so maybe no need for a regas I hope.
