    Electrical issue - Caddy 1.9 TDI 2005

Hi, I got a problem that I hope you guys can help me with.

A few days ago when I exited the car for a few seconds without locking it, and when I returned to the car I noticed a clicking sound from somewhere under the steering wheel. I then opened the bonnet to look on a different thing, and noticed the clicking sound inside the fuse box marked #458, so I disconnected the relay and noticed that there is another clicking sound also, under the steering wheel, this relay is marked #449. I have replaced both relays but still the same issue.

The symptoms besides the clicking sound are, no horn, no turning signal, no warning lights, also when turning the ECC on then the relay #460 makes noise without the blower going on.

When opening the front door, the clicking starts and when closing it stops clicking. When turning on the light switch, interior light work but when turning the ignition to on the lights go off.

The car starts and runs without a problem.

I have connected VCDS, unfortunately, it is not in English so it may be useless to show here.

So far I have removed the battery and fully charged it, I have replaced the relays, I have checked some grounds and tested all the fuses.

Some other problems that have shown up that may be related - The glow plug symbol on cluster is blinking, brake light switch error

    Does it start?

    Vile Invention

Dark was that day when Diesel conceived his grim engine that begot you, vile invention, more vicious, more criminal than the camera even, metallic monstrosity, bale and bane of our culture, chief woe of our Commonweal. How dare the Law prohibit hashish and heroin yet license your use, who inflate all weak inferior egos? Their addicts only do harm to their own lives: you poison the lungs of the innocent, your din dithers the peaceful, and on choked roads hundreds must daily die by chance-medley. Nimble technicians, surely you should hang your heads in shame. Your wit works mighty wonders, has landed men on the Moon, replaced brains by computers, and can smithy a "smart" bomb. It is a crying scandal that you cannot take the time or be bothered to build us, what sanity knows we need, an odorless and noiseless staid little electric brougham.

Yes, it starts and runs perfectly, only horn, wiper, turning signal and lights dont work.

I get about 6 volts to the 458 relay and 449 relay, i guess it should be 12volts?

When disconnecting the contact on the steering wheel ECU, the clicking starts at all times, that is why i think it points to the ignition switch, but i can not figure out why it is related so before starting replacing components i want to be more sure.

Yesterday a removed and checked for bad grounds but could not find any.

A question about relays: If i remove a relay and put a multimeter on 87 and 85, should i get a reading? I didn´t, but only when putting the relay half way in slot and touching the 87 and 85 pin i could get the reading of about increasing to 6volts and dropping.

Translated codes to english. It seems that most faults are in J519 and ignition switch
