    VW Sharan Erratic AC

2008 Sharan 1.9 TDI. Engine code BVK

This happens every single year after returning from summer vacation, and it is the aircon which goes kaput. Last summer replaced all pipes around the rear wheel arch as they were massively leaking.

So returned from a long holiday this year to find the AIRCON is working but not blowing any cold air.

The return pipe is HOT, but the cold pipe is slightly cooler than the ambient air temperature (hot day 22+). After few days, it was working OK and cooled the cabin to an acceptable level.

So the question is: Electronic or leakage? If it is electronic then why would cool and hot pipe display their usual characteristics.

If it is a leak, then how did it cool the car on that magical day.

When was it last re-gassed? They should put a dye in so you can see if you have any leaks.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

Last re-gassed about 13 months ago. Did RossTech Scan and found nothing wrong according to it. Used a UV light, which does not show any leakages in the engine bay. Would need to go under the car and see there as well perhaps.

Can low amount of refrigerant lead to erratic behavior?

What is the system pressure according to VCDS measuring blocks?

    Good Morning

I am sorry, I did not pay attention to that and do not have access to VAG-COM anymore.

However yesterday I went to an old school mechanic who carried out the following tests:

1: He checked the pressure on the inlets by pressing with a screw driver, and the pressure was quite high, HOWEVER THERE WAS no misty gas. He did it couple of times, and the system seemed to be pressurised but no misty gas came out, and the screw driver did not go cold.

2: UV light inspection did not reveal any obvious leaks across the systems from front to back.

Where did the gas go within one year, but the air pressure is still super-high??

Is it worth investing in one of those AIRCON Stop liquids/gases to seal any non-obvious holes?

    Thanks

It needs to be put on an AC pressure testing machine and the operation of the compressor checked, the HVAC control panel needs to be read for fault codes... what is for sure now is that the AC pressure is lower than it was AND intentional releasing R134A refrigerant into the atmosphere is a criminal offence
