First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Where did you get this key fob from fleabay?

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

If the car is around the 2004 age then it is possible to re code the lock unlock buttons to your car. It is fairly simple to do. What you cannot do is re code the immobiliser unless you have the SKC and VCDS but if you have managed to swap the immobiliser chip and the key starts the car you should be ok. I found the instructions by searching the web. If you need the instructions I may have them written down somewhere.
If the car is newer then you will need VCDS to do it.
