    Howdy one and all

    Greetings one and all.

I have just bought a secondhand ex Sky installer 2013 Caddy Maxi with 35000 miles on the clock as a works van for myself.
It has a years MOT and seems Gremlin free at this time.

I have been used to driving a Peugeot 306 1.9DTurbo for years and know just about every inch of that car what with it's old school Bosch mechanical Diesel fuel injection pump and it's head gaskets going every few years I feel a love/hate marriage has ended.

Don't know too much about common rail injection, high pressure fuel pumps and Turbo's that are controlled electronically but I'm here to learn.

My Peugeot only ever saw a garage for it's MOT once a year and that was for ten years so I'm pretty good with timing belts, power steering racks, brakes, suspension arms, etc, etc.

The ECU and fault code world is totally new to me and that's why I'm here so I'm introducing myself and whatever I learn I will pass along to the rest of you.

I guess the first thing I need to do is buy myself a decent diagnostic tool and so my first question will be and I'm sure it's been asked many times before but can someone please recommend a fault code reader. It can be laptop based or stand alone as long as it's reliable and functions well with the van.

    Many thanks one and all.

    Welcome to the forum.

Its nice to see you made an intro on your own.

Your car spec says 0, only what I've added from this post minus engine size/type.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

    Thanks for replying.

I think I might take a chance and order this software (VAG-COM\VCDS) that I keep hearing so much about.
About two hundred pounds to help fully understand my new vehicle doesn't sound like a bad investment.

Engine on my van is 1.6 TDI, I will amend my profile with more details.
I'm looking forward to a happy relationship with my new work-horse.

Have you got a link to the proper version?

I mean do you think this package will do just for me, I'm the only Volkswagon owner in this family and am not starting a garage.
It's just for my own use as a home user and enthusiast.

True, a dilemma but you could do what I do and bully everyone around you into the VAG brand, until they relent and stop buying “other” brands...
