If it is still using the Pierburg 2E2 then this can be due to the clutch cable breaking the wires to a device on the carburettor known as a Thermo Time Valve and this stops the 3-4 point unit as it is known, from dropping back and holding the idle at 750rpm. The number of people out there who are still alive and working that know how to work with these troublesome carbs is fast dwindling and it my be hard to find someone who knows how to work on them and where to get the parts or be able to properly repair the wiring so most people end up fitting the much simpler Weber conversion kit with manual choke. However if the car is an auto this kit is not recommended and the Pierburg has to be retained.

Hi again Crasher...I will take a look at the w/e...not heard of that carb before...is the carb conversion expencive and a benifit if the originol carb is working alright.

He is looking for a workshop manual for the car...its a Mk1 golf clipper soft top...1.8p

Its a late one just before the Mk2 he says its the face life model...its a G reg 1988...all the manual we see are for the earlier Mk 1 golf.

Do you know will any Mk1 manual be suitable for this car...
