To give yourself a better understanding of how the central electrics system works on the post 2012 Beetle, read this paying particular attention to pages 34 to 43

Thank you very much for sending this information really appreciate it.That is definitely the part that was taken off but he called it a different name, but if it is definitely that that is causing the problem is this something that needs to be main dealer because of the re coding or can an independent vw dealer do the re coding,my guy i used said it was only main dealer.

I have tried, and failed to code these central electrics units with VCDS and failed so I have to use the dealer system ODIS which costs 10 Euro an hour; add to that it is VERY slow, unreliable and painful to use. Quite a lot of VAG independent specialists are setting themselves up with ODIS but to use the security side requires special clearance from VAG Germany with quite a few hoops to jump through. I became fully set up with ODIS and the GEKO security clearance a few years ago as it was becoming impossible to do my job without it and getting a dealer to do jobs like this for you is like pulling teeth! Now I get other garages and VAG specialists asking me to do the work.
