Slight rattling/ chattering sound when idling

    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and new to VW and could do with some experienced opinions.

I bought a 2017 Polo 1.2 TSI Match Edition with 37400 miles on the clock a week ago.

I've noticed a gentle rattling/chattering sound when idle, more noticeable after a rev. Any idea what could be causing it and wether its something to be concerned about?

Here are a couple of YouTube videos, bonnet open and from inside the cabin.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Many thanks

Hi - Does it go away when you declutch? If so it’s possibly just the idler gears chattering which is usually nothing to worry about. Listening to the clips it does sound engine speed related though, suggesting not the gearbox maybe. We had a previous Polo with this engine and to be fair this was always a bit rattly over its 30k miles from new. Our current 1.0 Polo with three cylinders is a lot quieter and torquier - however I have hated driving the breathless, buzzy thing from new. I didn’t buy it though!

It will probably input shaft rattle but that should stop when you hold the clutch pedal down.

Just tried again and unfortunately the clutch doesn't affect it... Do you think it's worth popping into a VW garage to see what they think?

Those YouTube video's don't play, did you previous the thread when you made it?

Why the hell do members post using the stupid fonts/colours!!! it looks crap. Just use the default ones.

I did preview the thread. The video links work fine for me. And obviously for others replying.
As for fonts/ colours, I'm on mobile and don't have any options.
