    Help with fault codes from VCDS

    Hi all, hope your are enjoying the warm weather,

    I have had a VCDS scan done on my VW Fox this morning and these fault codes came up

    16687 - Cylinder 3
    P0303 - 009 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 832 /min
    Mass Air / Rev.: 125.4 mg/str
    Temperature: 67.5C
    Lambda: 0.0 %
    RPM: 896 /min
    Mass Air / Rev.: 147.2 mg/str
    Temperature: 96.0C
    Lambda: 0.0 %

    16556 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1
    P0172 - 007 - System Too Rich - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    Voltage: 0.820 V
    Voltage: 0.740 V
    Lambda: 0.0 %
    Bin. Bits: 00001000
    Voltage: 0.880 V
    Voltage: 0.840 V
    Lambda: 0.0 %
    Bin. Bits: 00001000

    Has any one had these, how did you go about sorting them out,

    VAG Error Code: 16687/10593/6352/4060/000771
    EOBD II Error Code: P0303

    Fault Location:
    Cylinder 3 - Misfire Detected

    Possible Cause:
    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
    Lack/loss of power.
    Hard start.
    Engine hesitation.

    Wiring/Connector(s).
    Ignition system.
    Fuel injectors.
    Fuel pressure.
    Running out of fuel.
    EVAP canister purge valve.
    Evaporative emission system.
    Low compression.
    Base engine problems.
    Engine Control Module (ECM) damaged.

    Possible Solutions:
    Check/Replace all faulty Wiring/Connector(s).
    Do a compression test.
    Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) 15 if misfire changes location.

    Special Notes:
    This feature search for engine misfire in a specific cylinder. Most of the time the cause for a misfire is a lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, or poor compression.

    Tech Notes:
    The P0303 code means that the cylinder 3 is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks an if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 3. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.

    Description:
    When a misfire occurs, engine speed will fluctuate. If the engine speed fluctuates enough to cause the Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor [G28]/Crankshaft Position Sensor [G28] signal to vary, the Engine Control Module (ECM) can determine that a misfire is occurring.

    Fault Location:
    Fuel Trim, Bank 1 - System too Rich

    Possible Cause:
    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
    Excessive Fuel Consumption.
    Irregular behaviour

    Fuel system.
    Excessive fuel pressure.
    Leaking or contaminated fuel injectors.
    Leaking fuel pressure regulator.
    Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel.
    Vapour recovery system.
    Air leaks after the Mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
    Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor (G70).
    Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (G62).
    Vacuum leaks.
    Improper seated engine oil dipstick.
    Stuck Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
    Oil overfill.
    Cam timing.
    Cylinder compression.
    Activated Charcoal Filter (Evaporative Emission (EVAP)) Control Valve 1 (N80).
    Fuel pressure.
    Injector(s).
    Exhaust leaks before or near Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 (G39).
    Read Measuring Value Blocks (MVB).
    At idle Adaptive value < -5.02%.
    At part load Adaptive value < -21%.

    Special Notes:
    Fuel Trim Information.

    When is the code detected?:
    Fuel injection system does not operate properly.
    The amount of mixture ratio compensation is too large. (The mixture ratio is too rich.)

    Description:
    With the Air/Fuel Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) 1. The Engine Control Module (ECM) calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios.

    In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the Engine Control Module (ECM) judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) (2 trip detection logic).
