    Do They Have Regen?

Hello, I’m after some info please.

we bought an approved 2016 Tiguan from the dealer, it has a 2.0L TDI engine and also AdBlue.

They told us they no longer have a regen system, however I noticed sometimes the engine RPM goes to around 1k and the cooling fans are on full blast. There is a strong burning smell also, this to me is exactly a regen in progress. I asked the dealership and they said it’s the cooling system and the revs pick up to push coolant around faster to cool the engine more. And our car does not have a regen system, only AdBlue...

    what are your thoughts?

I have never in all my time working on cars and building engines heard of a system that revs up to cool the engine faster... Have you?

Thanks Crasher, I thought as much.
I assume it doesn’t matter if you turn it off while it’s doing it?

Not ideal but not a problem.

As far as I know all TDI-CR engines have a DPF regen.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

Ahh thanks, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Before we bought it they told us they no longer have DPF regen systems because they were always going wrong. And that the one we were buying only had AdBlue and doesn’t regenerate. So when I noticed it was regenerating I phoned them to ask what it was doing. (I knew it was regenerating) and that’s when they came up with the thing about it revs to 1k when it’s hot to push coolant around faster lol.

Will tell you if you have a DPF fitted.

There are two electric pumps for that and them making that comment is actually quite worrying. VAG issue huge amounts of Self Study Programs... they should read them.
