Oil change at a non-VW garage?

Hi there, I'd appreciate some help. I'm new to Golfs, and modern cars like mine.

I live in France, but prefer to drive UK cars. They're cheaper, plus I've been driving RHD cars for 50 years. I bought a 2016 Golf Mk7 in February, and brought it back to France. Lovely car! Best I've ever had. About 25K miles on the clock, and it now tells me I need an oil change plus "inspection".

The reason for my question is that (A) the nearest VW dealer is (1) 50 minutes away, (2) offhand and (3) expensive. I'd prefer to use them for everything, but they aren't very welcoming. Whereas, I've used the local Ford dealer (Mondeo then Focus) for 12 years, and I like them. But I realise that servicing these days involves more than just the work - the onboard computer needs to know the work has been done, ie, reset. Maybe only a VW dealer can do this?

So, a simple question. Can I use the local Ford garage for the oil change, or do I need to use the VW dealer for everything?

All advice will be gratefully received.

    Thanks

Have a Google to see if there are any independent VAG specialists in your area... in the UK there are lots of them.

You better find a good VW specialist, even if it takes you 1 hour to get to them. You can easily do oil change yourself, but pretty soon you will need to change brake fluid, fuel filter, cambelt, etc. If you want your car to last a long time, you need to service it regularly and you need VW specific equipment and knowledge/training.

SadClouds, you're right. I'll use my local garage for any minor things, but for big things like an oil change, I'll use the dealer. Plus, when they changed the oil, they also inspected several things, found the battery to be ready to fail, topped up the windscreen washer and valeted the car, inside and out.

    Cheers
