Hi Guys.

Now I've had this info for a long time I've just seen it again so it may as well go in here. I've just posted this info in bits and pieces in another thread.

Let me start from the beginning. Every VAG vehicle made has an Data/Options sticker. One half of this sticker is on the first page of the service schedule the other half will be stuck on the boot floor somewhere near the spare wheel well (depending on the vehicle).

This sticker will show lots of info about that vehicle. This is sticker may not be exactly the same as yours.

Type Code: 1K1 3V2

This engine code is BWA and the transmission code is JLW along with the paint code under the engine number LB9A.

They sometimes put the engine code on a sticker on the timing belt cover.

If you want to know what all the other option codes are from 3 down then type them into VW/Audi/Seat/Škoda Option Codes Decoder. These Option Codes will tell you what was fitted to the vehicle when it came from the factory.

Now if you have a lot of time on your hands you can download VAG Option Codes 235 page pdf file and have a read through them all.
In that pdf there is a link to VAG Codes where can type in the odd Option Code but you can type in the engine code and it tells you which models the years they were fitted with that engine.

So if someone is after an engine you will see which vehicles used that engine code.

Please add the engine code to your signature. Adding your car spec

You can type your VIN number into VIN search tool to see what engine code is returned from the VIN number. Don’t be sad if the website doesn’t have your VIN. Come back to the website next 2 days maximum. The administrator of the website will put the information!

I got no history with my mk2 shell so it'll have to be a boot sticker... and my donor mk3 I'll have a look see what I've got with that too but will add soon

That sticker says Engine code: CAYC. Transmission code: LHW. Paint code: LB9A

BWA was used in the 05/05-02/09 Golf GTI. CAYC 1.6 105PS TDI was used in 53 VAG models.

I realize that but not being savvy on things other than driving cars - why post these details on a blog sight for what reason ? If you could advise I would be grateful.

The only details I'm asking for is the year, model, engine and transmission code which is no use to anyone browsing but its useful to us when answering questions.
