I was replacing the front brake lines on my Golf MK5 and ran into a problem with the nuts on the ABS. The nut for the offside line was the standard M10 but the nearside was M12. I only realised after taking it off and the new M10 nut spun in the the hole. I reused the old one, but was surprised to see different nut sizes. The pipes were exactly the same size. The pipes from the master cylinder are bigger but the lines to the brakes are the same. Anyone know why the nearside one was an M12? (UK car, right hand drive.)

This has been standard practice for years, it stops people putting lines in the wrong port as the results could be lethal
That's understandable. I was just wondering as all the info I've read on forums has been telling people to buy M10 nuts. Nothing on any of the forum posts I read said that the nuts were different sizes on opposite sides.
