Just had a catastrophic failure of the clutch/gearbox in my 72K mile (mostly motorway) 2012 Passat 2.0 TDI Bluemotion (Manual).
Part of the clutch cover plate (about a 5 " length of the spring fingers). sheared from the cover plate, rotated around the bell housing , scoring all the aluminium then sheared off and made a hole into the gearbox about the size of a 50 piece, amazingly the car was still driving ok until I started to smell oil. My local VW main dealer were too busy to look at it for a week so I was forced to use a small independent garage.
The long and short is that I have had to have a reconditioned gearbox and complete new clutch fitted. ÂŁ3K up the spout. I'm talking to VW who appear completely disinterested (my contention being that part of the original cover plate shearing off is not a normal wear occurrence).
Anyway, to my question:
Immediately after having the replacement gearbox and clutch fitted, start stop was ok, but then about 20 mins later I got an error start stop message and it stopped working.
I also noticed that the indicator in the dash which tells you which gear your are in and recommends changing up etc, is now showing the wrong gear. For example it tells me to change up to 6th when I'm already in 6th and reckons I'm in 3rd when I'm in 4th etc etc.
The garage say they fixed the start stop, but it is still not working and they seem stymied by the gear indicator. Apparently no error codes are showing and the latest thinking is it will reset after 200 miles or so. Sounds dodgy to me.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
